Today Connor, Emily, and I went to the Whitewater Preserve which is in Whitewater California and pretty darn close to Palm Springs. When I was a kid it was the Whitewater trout farm and my brother and I would come with our parents to fish in the trout ponds. Now, it is a Preserve with a ranger station and a picnic area next to the ponds where we used to fish.
The parking lot is a tad small and we did get there pretty late, but we managed to find a spot to park. Parking is free but all hikers need to check in at the ranger station so that they know you are out hiking.
We did not spend as much time as I would have liked there today but it was still a beautiful day with great company.
We started to hike up the Pacific Crest Trail South, but I am a giant sissy and the height of the trail was really messing with me. We made it about half way up and then turned back and went back down. We spent the rest of the day sort of wandering around, enjoying the breeze and clear water in the river.
We spent a little over two hours at Preserve and walked 2.40 miles which is not much at all if you look at the trail rock picture below. 😦 The next time I come out here, I would like to go to the Mission Creek Stone House. I think that would be a great hike to do in the fall or maybe early winter.
